Here I'm
heating up water for preheating the tun and for mashing My great
cheap little turkey fryer came with the enameled pot and I only use it for
heating water, nothing else. I will bring a few gallons to a near boil and pour
it into my mash tun to warm it up so I don't lose heat when I mash in later.
I simply
add a few gallons of hot water to my tun to warm it up This really
helps prevent heat loss, especially since I'm using a larger cooler with
smaller amounts of grain (usually less than 20lbs) for 5 gallon batches. At
first I lost a lot of heat warming the cooler, but now I don't lose more than a
couple of degrees over the entire mash, which can be over an hour. |
