The Cooldown

Now I've got to get the wort cooled quickly
You can see my wort chiller and prechiller in action.

This picture is from a different brew session, obviously.  I built a prechiller to cool my incoming water before it enters the wort chiller sitting in the boiling pot.  The prechiller sits in a cooler (on the left) full of salty ice water.  The water is cooled several degrees before entering the boiling wort.  You can visit my wort chiller page for pictures of how it was built.  I put a sanitized lid on the kettle, with the edge angled to that condensation drips out of the kettle.

The first time I used the prechiller it actually worked too well and I had to stop the cooldown because the wort temperature dropped below 70 degrees while I was busy sanitizing the fermenter.
